Yaquina Head Light
Newport, Oregon - Built in 1873
Yaquina Head Lighthouse stands on the beautiful,
rugged coast of Oregon. The rock on which the Lighthouse stands
has a rich vein of magnetized iron that runs through
it's core which plays havoc with the ship's compasses in the area.
The lighthouse was accidentally built on the wrong cape.
It was meant for Cape Foulweather about 4 miles to the north.
This mistake caused the nearby Yaquina Bay Lighthouse
to become obsolete. So it's light was turned off.
